• Pain relief. Don’t suffer in pain for hours or days when you could get immediate dental care. A severe toothache can be agonizing, but our office will see you as soon as possible to treat the problem and relieve your pain.
• Save your tooth. In many cases getting immediate care can save a tooth that would otherwise be lost. A dislodged tooth can often be put back in place if it is done so in a timely manner with the help of a dentist. A cracked or broken tooth may be saved if it is treated or covered with a crown right away.
• Get treatment at a familiar dental office. Not all dentists provide emergency dental care, but being a regular patient of one who does means that when you do need urgent care, you can go to the practice you know and trust. We are here for you when you need us the most.

It can sometimes be difficult to determine whether or not your situation is an emergency. Examples of emergency dental situations include:

• Severe tooth pain. If you have severe tooth pain that can’t be relieved by over the counter pain medication, you have a dental emergency. Call us right away and we will provide instructions.
• Loose permanent tooth. A loose tooth should be addressed right away, but it can most likely wait until the next business day if our office is already closed. Call us and we will advise you on how to proceed.
• Broken or cracked tooth. The urgency of a broken or cracked tooth depends on the severity of the situation. Call us right away and we will assess the situation to determine whether or not you need immediate attention.
• Dislodged tooth. In the case of a dislodged permanent tooth, pick it up by the crown and avoid touching the root. Carefully rinse it off (plug the drain first) and place it back in the socket. Bite down on clean gauze and have a loved one call us on your behalf. If you can’t put the tooth back, place it in a cup of saliva or milk and bring it with you to our office. If a baby tooth is dislodged before it is ready to come out, do not place it back in the socket. Call us for instructions.
• Soft tissue injury. If an injury occurs to the soft tissues of the mouth (tongue, gums, lips) call us right away. In cases of uncontrollable bleeding, call 911 or proceed to the nearest hospital emergency department.
